What our sports medicine orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nels Sampatacos’s PRO SPORT Orthopedic patients in Gig Harbor can expect at their first appointment
PRO SPORT | CHIROPRACTIC PATIENTS | WHAT TO EXPECT
NEW PATIENT APPOINTMENTS
New patient appointments at PRO SPORT are one hour long with one of our Sports Rehab Chiropractors. Your Gig Harbor Sports Rehab Chiropractor will listen to your health history and health concerns – what prompted you to make an appointment, where/what hurts. Your Sports Rehab Chiropractor will then perform a functional movement screen. After your functional moment screen, your Sports Rehab Chiropractor will discuss your diagnosis and help you connect your diagnosis to your health concerns. What hurts where and why. Next you will be educated about your diagnosis and treatment plan created specifically for you. You will begin treatment right away in your new patient appointment using several different treatments and techniques, depending on your individual circumstance.
SECOND APPOINTMENTS
Your second appointment will most likely be your first rehab appointment depending on individual circumstance. This is the first time you will interact with our trainers in our modern rehab facility. First, you will start with a visit to one of our Sports Rehab Chiropractors then you will head to the rehab facility area of the clinic. One of our trainers will walk you though each and every exercise, ensuring you understand how to do the exercise safely and with proper form. We will work with you one on one every step of the way. Our goal is to educate and empower you to care for your body. We will work with you to overcome your injury and surpass your performance plateau safely, with less pain and without the need for constant maintenance care.
REGULAR APPOINTMENTS
After your New Patient Appointment and your Second Appointment, your time will be split between your Gig Harbor Sports Rehab Chiropractor and trainer. Many of our patient receive a prescription for a massage prior to their manual therapy/rehab appointment. This is the same model most professional athletes experience and we believe you deserve the same level of care as a professional athletes because performance is for everyone!
PRO SPORT | ORTHOPEDIC PATIENTS | WHAT TO EXPECT
Your musculoskeletal system is complex. It gives you support, stability, and the ability to move. Unfortunately, injury, overuse, genetics, and aging can cause the system to fail. When these things happen, it does not mean you have to put life on hold. At Pro Sport Orthopedics, we help you get back in action. Our team will evaluate your condition, listen to your specific needs, and come up with an individualized treatment plan that is right for you.
NEW PATIENT APPOINTMENTS
Comprehensive Medical History
We will start by asking you questions about your condition. Please be prepared to describe your symptoms that you are currently experiencing. This may include an explanation of when your pain started, how it feels, where it is located, what makes it worse/better, and the degree to which it interferes with your activity and quality of life. Feel free to bring any previous records, pain logs, previous surgical reports, or anything you feel might be pertinent to your situation.
Your past medical history is also very important as it can have an impact on your condition and recommended treatment.
Please bring a current list of your medications and allergies with you.
Physical Examination
Please be prepared for a physical exam by wearing appropriate clothing (e.g. tank tops for upper extremity injuries, shorts for lower extremities). We will observe your skin, look for swelling, evaluate your range of motion, and perform various physical tests to assess your functionality. Some of these tests may feel awkward or uncomfortable. However, they may be necessary at times to help us pinpoint your diagnosis.
X-rays, MRIs and other Imaging Studies
If you have not already had previous x-rays, we will most likely order these prior to your first visit with us. Our office will provide you with instructions for this at the time of scheduling your appointment. If you have already had x-rays, we will attempt to obtain these, so please be prepared to bring any copies, reports, and/or discs to our office so that we can review them. We use these special studies in combination with your exam to further understand and pinpoint your diagnosis.
